The First Thanksgiving

November 25, 2015 pwm1

Many people believe that the first Thanksgiving took place to honor the Wampanoag tribe and its leader, King Massasoit, who had helped the Pilgrims learn to successfully plant in their new land.  However, the first Thanksgiving took place in 1621 to give thanks to God for giving them a bountiful harvest, a tradition dating back centuries in England.

Giving thanks to their Creator was also a Native tradition after a successful harvest, so one could imagine the wonderful scene of both the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag celebrating together on that incredible day in 1621.
