Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.

…We control our world by the way we perceive it.
While we cannot orchestrate external circumstances, we have full power over the way we perceive those circumstances, thus controlling the way they affect our lives. Most of us cringe, get angry, or even fall into a depression when adversity comes our way. However, once we realize that life is a proving ground Divinely designed to help us grow toward our Creator, we begin to see each individual challenge for what it really is: simply another opportunity for spiritual advancement.
Remember, God doesn’t throw anything at us we cannot handle. And the more we put ourselves out there in the arena, the bigger target we become for adversity. That is the way it is supposed to be! Don’t try to hide in the stands, it is a miserable existence; enter through the Gate of Life, and then embrace and fully live the experience!
